How to Get Certificate of Freedom to Marry?
It is too ambiguous. A church representative told me that the employer of the person abroad (OFW) is the one to provide this, but I'm thinking, what does the employer have to do with it?
As for other churches, they say that it could be obtained from the parish of the OFW's residence abroad.
Still, there are those saying that it is required, too, for foreigners which will be having a church wedding in the Philippines. In this case, they have to obtain a Certificate of Freedom to Marry from a Catholic Pastor, Protestant, Minister or Embassy of the non-Filipino party.
Now, which is which? It's just one of the many confusing things in the Philippines...
Nag-work ka ba abroad bago kinasal? Ang hassle, nun kasing nag-inquire ako sa simbahan sabi, sa employer daw kukunin. E mas kapani-paniwala pa kung sa embassy or sa parish abroad kukunin. Nakakalito lang.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...sounds interesting! ت

Nag-overhaul ako ng template. Trying to experiment, I think this one's better...
ReplyDeleteOh wow, its required now even for Filipino citizens?
ReplyDeleteMy 2-cents about Freedom to Marry is from our own experience when me and hubby had our church wedding in Iloilo.
I was then still a Filipino Citizen, but hubby was already a dual (Filipino-American). Although we were married by a Minister here in Canada, yet the catholic church still requires a Freedom to Marry Document from the parish priest of the parish you are part of. Hubby had this requested and I had this forwarded to the church we are to be married.
However, there is a different document you need if you are of different citizenship and planning to get married in the PHilippines to get a marriage license. This is "Affidavit of Eligibility to Marry" which you can only get from the consular office in the Philippines of the country of your citizenship, like US Embassy or Canadian Embassy. This is especially needed if you are single or divorced. YOu take oath in front of your consul and they give you this affidavit. My hubby didn't need this because we were married already in Canada.
I was not aware that even Philippine citizen is now required of this. But I hope my 2-cents help for those who are confuse.
Thanks for the additional info.:) I guess the Certificate of Freedom to Marry is different from the Affidavit of Eligibility to Marry because Certificate of Freedom to Marry is required even if you are a Filipino citizen, as long as you stayed in another country for more than 6 months.
