Singapore: G-Max Reverse Bungy - A Dream Come True

Since December 2010, I badly wanted to go to Singapore. It was not because of Universal Studios. It was not because of the Singapore Flyer or Sentosa. The only reason why I wanted to go there was to be able to experience the G-Max Reverse Bungy ride.

The moment I watched The Amazing Race Asia's season finale last December 9, 2010, I had to promise myself that by all means, I would try that Reverse Bungy ride. I could still clearly remember the challenge laid to the pairs of contestants there during the last leg of the race, wherein they were given some time to read a long set of equation, and then they were immediately thrown up in the air and they had to calculate for the answer. G-Max automatically found its perfect place in my bucket list.

And after 14 months of waiting, I finally had the chance to experience the G-Max. We bought the Extreme Adrenaline Super Combo ticket worth SGD 59.00 (access to both the G-Max Reverse Bungy and GX-5 Extreme Swing). If you choose only one ride, the ticket would cost SGD 49.00 per ride. The amount that you could save due to the promo could be quite intimidating (a whopping discount of SGD 39.00, will make one wonder if it is THAT challenging to try both rides). Anyway, the combo was nothing but perfect for me - being the adrenaline junkie that I am (I was planning to try both rides even though there was no promo), and being the spendthrift that I am.

We arrived at around 4:00 pm and we were just the second pair of customers for the day (and they open at 2:00 pm, hmm...this is quite challenging, perhaps, and I love it). Whatever, they boast of their 100% safety record in over 1,000,000 jumps, we were both over 12 years of age and we were not intoxicated so there's nothing to worry about.

Here's the photo. I was wearing a dress because there had been slight changes in our ala-Amazing Race itinerary and I do not have any other clean clothes.
taken moments before we were thrown up in the air
The fact that I am writing this now is a proof that G-Max is safe, and the feeling was amazing. In a split-second, you'd be tossed up 60 meters in the air, the feeling was like an upward free-fall (that's why it's a reverse bungy). The ride could accommodate up to three persons. The exciting part would take a split-second (the moment you're thrown up, they say at 200 kph), and then they'll keep you up there spinning gently for a while (you could enjoy the view and passersby could enjoy viewing you), and they'll take you down gently. The ride lasts for just less than four minutes.

How to get to G-Max: 2-3 minutes walk from the Clarke Quay station (if you found the right exit).
Budget for G-Max: SGD 49.00 (if it is only G-Max that you want to try, SGD 59.00 if you want to ride both G-Max and GX-5, completely different experiences).
Things you need to know before riding G-Max: You must be at least 1.2 meters tall, 12 years of age and not intoxicated. Place all loose items in the basket that they provide, bring lots of guts, and pray.
