April 23, 2012, Saturday.
Finally, we'd be heading back home.
When we woke up, my two girl friends were so happy to see me with them. After waking up, I got out of the hut, and was surprised to see our other companions already gathered outside (I haven't seen the four guys when I arrived the previous night, and my girl friends also did not have any idea on where they were because my friends also lagged a bit behind). Upon seeing me, they were all smiling, and because I was just so happy to survive, I laughed and smiled back wholeheartedly.

The Testimony of a Mt. Apo Killer Hike Survivor: from White Sand Camp back to Sitio Paradise
(4th of 5-Part Series)

April 22, 2011. Good Friday.
As I prayed for repentance while thinking it might be the end for me already, I also prayed hard for the heavy rain to stop. Unfortunately, my prayer was not answered and the heavy rain went on all through the night. There came a point when the three of us finally decided that we would not pursue the final assault to the summit, because we were so wet and cold with no change of clothes and did not have any rest at all. We were awake and stayed close to each other the whole night, in a vain attempt to feel warm.

(3rd of 5-Part Series)

April 21, 2011, Maundy Thursday.
We were already up at 2:00 AM. With our headlamps on, we started the steep trek along the crops field, en route to the rain forest part. Before we left, I told our team leader that I have decided on not pursuing because I might just cause them trouble. He was already arranging the food that were to be left for me, when all the other participants encouraged me to push through. As much as I had no energy (and courage) left in me, I decided to push through. (parang papilit lang tuloy...)

April 20, 2011, Wednesday - Day 1 of the Mt. Apo Climb
7:00 AM. We were all up and rode a taxi going to Ecoland Bus Terminal. The taxi ride took half an hour, and we had a quick breakfast (cup noodles) at a store in Ecoland upon arrival. We met the other four participants there.

The Testimony of a Mt. Apo Killer Hike Survivor: the Preparation
(1st of 5-Part Series)
(Note: Please click on "Next" at the bottom of this post to get to the continuation.)
Even before conquering Mt. Pulag on the end of January, it had already been decided that we proceed with the Mt. Apo major climb next. Aside from the fact that climbing Mt. Apo had been in our friendship's bucket list since college days, we had been influenced by the tour provider, since he offered a Mt. Apo "tour" package (note: "tour" is inappropriate since it was not a leisurely walk in the park, I just can't think of a better word).

Mt. Palay-Palay (Pico de Loro) Day Hike: Never Underestimate a Minor Climb!
Pico de Loro stands at 664 meters above sea level, and is situated at Ternate, Cavite. It is one of the few mountains in the Philippines that showcases a 360 degrees view at its peak - offering a breathtaking view of the coastline of Nasugbu and ultimately having the monolith parrot's beak as the highlight. A day hike, though tiring, would suffice. If you prefer otherwise, there wouldn't be a problem because there's a wide campsite laden with bamboos just before the final five-minute assault to the summit.
